PIPA is the professional organisation for individuals in the pharmaceutical industry involved in the provision and management of information.
The association was formed in 1974 and was previously known as AIOPI (Association of Information Officers in the Pharmaceutical Industry).

The MHRA is consulting on the European Commission's legislative proposals to strengthen and rationalise the EU pharmacovigilance systems. The Commission's proposals were published on 10 December 2008.
A response will be submitted on behalf of PIPA. If you have any comments on this consultation, please add them to the Discussion room posting.

Of note to PIPA members is the call for pharmacovigilance obligations to be proportionate to the product's risk profile.

The Department of Health has been working on an accreditation scheme for health and social care information. This has just been renamed The Information Standard. Information providers, including the voluntary, public and commercial sectors, that meet the criteria of The Information Standard will be entitled to place a quality mark on their information materials so people searching for health care information can easily identify it as coming from a reliable source. Datapharm is one of the organisations in the commercial sector that is the testing phase of the project.
